How Does Fragrance Change on Skin? An AVRA Wear Test

Fragrance does not stay exactly as it started.

From the first spray, a fragrance begins to change with time, skin and the surrounding environment. Some notes appear quickly and fade, while others remain for hours and shape the final impression of the scent.

We tested all three AVRA fragrances: DAY SHIFT, AFTER SIX and WHITE NOISE, on skin and recorded what we observed from the first spray until the final detectable trace.

How did we test them?

We applied 3 sprays to the skin for each fragrance. Each fragrance was tested separately to reduce interference from other scents as much as possible.

Over the following hours, we returned to the application area at different checkpoints and recorded what we could detect.

This was not a projection test. Projection requires a separate testing method. Here, we focused on two questions:

How does the fragrance change on skin, and how long does it remain detectable?

DAY SHIFT — Around 10 Hours

DAY SHIFT opened bright and fresh, with clearly noticeable citrus and pineapple alongside a touch of soft sweetness.

During the first hour, ginger and woods became more noticeable while the pineapple and citrus gradually softened.

Several hours later, the fragrance had become drier and woodier. In its final stages, woods and musk became more apparent, accompanied by a very faint warmth before the fragrance moved closer to the skin and gradually faded.

Our observed wear time on skin: around 10 hours.

AFTER SIX — 14+ Hours

AFTER SIX opened sweeter, with noticeable pear, a citrus brightness and a subtle touch of vanilla.

As time passed, the floral character became more apparent before the fragrance gradually moved toward a warmer profile led by vanilla, amber and sweetness.

This character remained for many hours. At close to 14 hours, vanilla and amber were still detectable near the skin.

We did not observe the exact point at which the fragrance disappeared completely during this test. The most accurate result is therefore:

AFTER SIX remained detectable on skin for at least 14 hours.

WHITE NOISE — Around 7 Hours

WHITE NOISE opened with a clearly musky and powdery character, accompanied by a clean, soft and airy feeling.

During the first hour, the powdery side became more prominent while the musk softened. Over the following hours, the fragrance settled into a clean, musky and powdery character that remained close to the skin.

At around five hours it was still detectable but quieter. By seven hours, the remaining scent was very faint and barely detectable.

A weak trace remained beyond that point, but we chose not to count an almost imperceptible trace as practical wear time.

Our observed wear time on skin: around 7 hours.

Three Fragrances. Three Different Evolutions.

The difference wasn't simply the number of hours each fragrance lasted.

DAY SHIFT moved from a bright, fruity opening toward woods and musk.

AFTER SIX transitioned from a fruity-floral opening into a sweeter, warmer character led by vanilla and amber.

WHITE NOISE remained calmer and more linear, maintaining its clean, musky and powdery identity as its intensity gradually decreased.

This is exactly what we want to explore through AVRA Journal: not only how a fragrance smells at the beginning, but what happens after.
